Unit 3- Balance, Space, Form and Texture

For the next 9 weeks the students at Winston will be exploring the Elements and Principles of Balance, Space, Form and Texture.
We started this unit with all grade levels learning the difference between 2-D shapes and 3-D forms.
Thier Essential Question for this  was " EQ: What is the difference between 2-D shapes and 3-D forms?"
Each student should be able to answer this question .  2-D shapes are Flat like when you draw or paint a picture and 3-D forms are not flat like  when you make a sculpture that you can see all different sides of.

The all Students are also learning about texture. There are 2 types we are discussing: Actual texture and Implied (visual ) texture.  There 3- D projects will have both Actual and Implied.
Kindergarten students will make Pinch Pots and Texture Medallions with clay.
1st Grade students will make coil pots with clay
2nd , 4th and 5th Grade Students will make Clay owls with Actual and Implied Texture
3rd Grade Students will make Pueblo Storytellers with clay.

Each students will demonstrate the standards we are learning through their artwork as well as through a Common District Assessment (CDA) that they will take at the end of the Unit. Each art CDA has 3 components the Vocabulary ( Muliple Choice and short answer test) , Performance (artwork),  Artist Statement (writing about thier work, giving it a title and signing their work).
I will post pictures of projects as we complete them during this 9 weeks.
